Percussion Lessons

Marilyn offers percussion lessons to students of all levels

Lessons FAQ:

Q: What age of students do you teach?

A: All ages! Beginning through advanced students from little kids to adults in their 90’s! It’s never too late to start to learn percussion.

Q: What are the youngest students that you take?

A: I generally recommend that students wait until they are in school to start taking lessons, age 6 or older is a good time; however, if a very young student is eager to begin lessons I will take them younger. Students must be potty trained (seriously), know their ABC’s, and be able to count to 10.

Q: What instruments do you teach?

A: Any and all percussion instruments! Marimba (and other mallet percussion), drum set, steel pans, snare drum, congas, bongos, cajon, frame drums, tabla, djembe, marching percussion, orchestral percussion, concert band percussion, hand percussion such as tambourine and maracas – anything!

Q: Where are lessons held?

A: I have a home studio in Tempe, AZ – about 2 miles from the ASU campus.

Q: Are you willing to teach in-home lessons?

A: Yes, I can come to you; however, in-home lessons do cost more and you must own your own instrument(s).

Q: Do I need to own my own instruments to start lessons at the studio?

A: No! There are a great many things we can work on away from the instrument to get you started, and you can play the instruments in your lessons. You will want to look into purchasing or renting an instrument over time.

Q: Do you offer group lessons?

A: Yes, depending on the specific instrument I do offer group lessons, often at discounted rates per student, and would be happy to discuss details.
